At VELUX, we are committed to fostering a safe and motivating work environment for everyone to thrive and perform at their best. By proactively creating inclusive environments, we value diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives to accelerate innovation, agility, and quality of work – strengthening our competitive edge and capacity to grow and thrive as a business.
The VELUX Group Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policy
The VELUX Group DEI Policy was launched in 2022. It outlines our vision of DEI and establishes a shared framework of key terms and global targets to guide our priorities, decisions, and actions.
Diversity means the state of having differences among people. This includes employing people with different genders, ethnicities, ages, disabilities, sexual orientations, religions, marital statuses, socio-economic statuses, mental health, educations, nationalities, work experiences, personality types etc. and leveraging this diversity for both individuals and teams to utilise their full potential.
Equity is fairness and justice in the way people are treated. Equity ensures access, opportunity, and advancement for all people. We achieve equity by identifying and removing policies, practices, and procedures that create and reinforce unfair outcomes.
Inclusion is the practice of valuing and leveraging differences and similarities. Inclusion ensures a culture of belonging in which people feel safe, respected, heard, engaged, motivated, and valued for who they are.
Mitigating unconscious bias
To become a more inclusive workplace with fairness for all, we are working to raise awareness and reduce unconscious bias – in our processes, decision-making, and structures.
Working to reveal and mitigate unconscious bias is a life-long journey and therefore an integrated part of our leadership training programme for all managers, project managers, HR business partners, and Recruitment Partners. In the coming year, training on unconscious bias and inclusiveness will become a focus area for all employee groups.
Part of the employee journey
We are continuously working on integrating DEI into all stages of the employee VELUX journey – from the way we attract talent to the way we recruit, onboard, performance evaluate, reward, promote and develop.
One initiative in doing this is by using the Develop Diverse software in our recruitment advertising. This software detects biases towards gender, ethnicity, neurodiversity, and physical disability and suggests non-stereotypical wording alternatives to attract a broader group of talent.
A forum for change
During 2023, we established the foundation for Employee Inclusion Communities to support the creation of an inclusive work environment that strengthens the sense of belonging and acceptance, camaraderie and fairness across groups and helps members build allyship. Employees can volunteer to be part of these communities, which are financed and supported by the VELUX Group.
